Deron Williams was in Dallas Monday, giving the Mavericks the first crack at signing him. Williams is the big prize in this year’s draft and if Mark Cuban is unable to bring him in, this past year is a major fail to say the least.
Here we could have brought everybody back to make another run at the finals and once again beat LeBron James. Instead, we let go of guys like Tyson Chandler and J.J. Barea to make cap room to ultimately bring in someone like D-Will or Dwight Howard.
Howard’s not coming, that’s pretty obvious now and unless Williams lands as a Maverick, the breakup experiment was a major mistake and Dallas will have been one-and-done. Not to mention, the club had to go through the terrible Lamar Odom disaster of an experiment.
Williams signing is the only thing that could make all that pain go away.
There will be a lot of heartbroken fans in Texas if Williams doesn’t sign because if he goes elsewhere, not only will this past year have been a major flop but we might as well give up all hopes on seeing Dirk Nowitzki winning another ring in a Mavs uniform.
What could be more disappointing for Dallas fans?
There are doubts that Josh Hamilton will be a Texas Ranger next year and that will be heartbreaking if he doesn’t return. However, as we finish this season and enjoy our time with him while it lasts, many of us are preparing for the worst case scenario of Hamilton in another uniform.
The thought of a Hamilton-less Rangers team sucks. It sucks real bad but somehow I can’t decide which is worse: The Mavs not signing Deron Williams or the Rangers not re-signing Josh Hamilton. I’ve already determined the Mavs can’t go back without Deron Williams but the Rangers, even without Hamilton, are capable of going back to the World Series.
Any thoughts?
**Let’s just hope the crappy Photoshopped job above isn’t the closest thing Dallas fans have to seeing Deron Williams in a Mavs uniform.
