Friday night I went to see the Rangers and the Mets. It was a win-win situation because I had never seen the Mets before so I got to cross another team off the list, and the Rangers won 8-1. What happened in the rest of the series is irrelevant.
Anyway, there was one guy in the stands who probably figured it’d be a win-win for him if he rooted for both teams, and he broke one of the most forbidden rules in all of sports. He wore a Mets hat and a Josh Hamilton Rangers jersey.
Where do I begin on this one? I’ve always said it’s wrong to wear apparel of two different teams in the same sport, and as bad as that is, it’s even worse when the two teams are playing each other.
Just pick one team and stick with it.
The weird thing is it seemed like he didn’t know who to pull for. He yelled at Ian Kinsler for not swinging the bat and got bad at the Mets for costly errors.
There’s no situation where what he did is acceptable.
To have more than one favorite is like what Bill Simmons calls sports polygamy. A true fan sticks with his team through thick and thin, through sickness and in health, through wins and through losses and to split that level of commitment is just wrong.

Okay, I have to question your train of thought here. I think there may be circumstances in which you just cannot decide against either team. This has never happened to you? It seems like it would be a common predicament, because people are naturally going to go watch TWO teams that they like when they get a chance. For me, it’s the Twins and the Rangers. I LOVED watching the Twins growing up and they were my only team. After living in Texas for the second half of my life, I gave my allegiance to the Rangers. Or did I? When I watch both of them together at a game, my entire brain and body are confused and don’t know what to do. So here’s to you, strange Mets/Hamilton guy.
